What is the Career Pathways Project?


The Mining Industry Skills Centre is working with the industry to present clear and defined career pathways for various job roles to:
Assist in attracting potential employees to the mining sector
Maximise the available talent pool; and
Assist in the retention of employees by providing career progression

 

The Career Pathways Project works towards achieving Goal 2 identified in the Mining Industry Skills Strategy.

 

The Career Pathways Project has worked with industry bodies and commercial organisations to identify 48 critical job roles according to the industry skills shortage, and the most effective way of attracting employees to these positions.  It is the intention to share this information industry wide.

 

Benefits:

  • Clear, well defined career pathways will be developed for the mining industry for job roles suffering a severe skills shortage
  • Clear, well defined pathways can assist in attracting potential employees into the mining industry
  • Clear and concise entry points will provide potential employees information that will assist them in gaining a job within the mining industry
  • Current, up-to-date career pathway reference material will be readily available to industry, industry bodies, key stakeholders and the general public; and
  • Information from the career pathways project can assist mining organisations further develop their succession planning process
