The Board

The Mining Industry Skills Centre Board

 

The Board is comprised of a combination of representatives from the resources industries, Government and employer and employee industry associations.

 

The role of the Board is to ensure the Mining Industry Skills Centre has the support and resources to develop and implement the organisational strategy as well as communicate its purpose to the industry, government and unions.

 

Additionally, the Board is responsible for providing industry insight into necessary legislative changes.

Ian will apply his extensive mining industry knowledge to the strategic direction and operations of the Mining Industry Skills Centre.

Geoff is responsible for DETA’s industry engagement strategies:
Developing innovative solutions to address the skills and labour shortage in Queensland.
Strategic purchasing of training for Queensland.
Providing advice on educational and training priorities; and
Ensuring the contractual obligations of public and private training organisations are met.

Derek Hunter was appointed CEO in March 2006 and restructured the former Queensland Mining Industry, Training and Advisory Board (QMITAB) into the current day Mining Industry Skills Centre. 

 

Derek’s background in education, leadership development and organisational change have been key in shifting the culture of the organisation to a more proactive focus on workforce development and planning for the industry.

Xstrata Copper


Steve de Kruijff was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Xstrata Copper’s North Queensland division in December 2006. Prior to this role, Steve was the General Manager of Xstrata’s Mount Isa Copper Operations.

 

Since 2002, Steve has held several general management roles including General Manager Business Services at Mt Isa Mines, General Manager McArthur River Mine and General Manager Ernest Henry Mine.

QRC is the peak industry body for the minerals and energy sector in Queensland, representing the interests of approximately 150 companies.

 

Michael is working to support the long term sustainability of the resources sector through partnerships as well as developing skills, economic and community infrastructure.
