CEO
Derek Hunter was appointed CEO in March 2006 and restructured the former Queensland Mining Industry, Training and Advisory Board (ITAB) into the current day Mining Industry Skills Centre.
Derek’s background in education, leadership development and organisational change have been key in shifting the culture of the organisation to a more proactive focus on workforce development and planning for the industry.

David Fell
Manager - Product Delivery & In-house Legal
David, along with the Product Delivery team, is responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of all Mining Industry Skills Centre products and services. This includes the rollout of the new GI delivery structure to our licensed RTOs in April as well as the continued delivery and support of PROJECT CANARY to our customers.
As manager for Product Delivery, David is also responsible for the management of the Resources Industry Training Fund (RITF). In his capacity as In-House Counsel, David manages all legal requirements for the Skills Centre.
Deb Jones
Manager - Research & Development
Based in Brisbane, Deb is responsible for managing the development of skills formation strategies, simulation, eLearning and related educational products.
Deb is also responsible for the development and implementation of the Mining Industry Skills Strategy which is designed to ensure that current and future employment needs are fulfilled. This work is particularly urgent given the growth of the resources industry in the current climate of skills shortages.
