Derek Hunter was appointed CEO in March 2006 and took over the former Queensland Mining Industry, Training and Advisory Board (QMITAB) and saw its continued growth into the current day Mining Industry Skills Centre. 

Derek’s background in education, leadership development and organisational change have been key in shifting the culture of the organisation to a more proactive focus on workforce development and planning for the industry.
